Amelie and Alchemy – Doc

  • Amelie and the squirrel.
  • The final image.
  • Amelie helping out.

Luther Gerlach is a 19th century man stuck in a 21st century world.  He is a master of the black art; photography.  His hands are permanently stained black from the silver nitrate and fixer.  Wet-plate collodion photography is anything but hazard free.  Cyanide is one of the key ingredients to producing the most detailed photographic images ever made.  Though he has photographed countless models and landscapes, he has never tuned the lens on his four and a half year old daughter, Amelie.  As he sets out to make the first images of a girl growing up in the hyperactive age of the 21st century, two worlds collide and create a magical documentation of their relationship.
