Fractured Fridays Broadcast
A Social Experiment
“Fractured Fridays” was a bi-monthly live web-cast that we conducted on no budget at the One Step Productions office. The idea was to create a very laid back, personal experience for indie music lovers that allowed for dynamic and real-time interaction between the fans/viewers and the bands.
We would pull every string we had to get any band we knew into the office to play. We then experimented with the UStream and LiveStream platforms to try and create a broadcast quality experience for the bands fans by using all of the powers of social media to drive viewers to the chat rooms.
Since I was the only technician, I was tasked with setting the whole thing up technically and then running it, which meant that I was camera operating, editing, adding headers, and monitoring audio levels and the chat room all at the same time! Talk about an adrenaline rush.
Below are snippets of the songs we recorded. Eventually we started recording a dual system on a Canon 7D so that we could have a full 1080p file at the end of the day that the band could share with the world.
